Negros Week of peace is a landmark project dedicated to the youth of the province. I dearly hopes to gather Negrenses to dialogue about PEACE and work together through different PEACE-enabling activities and initiatives. It further strives to involve communities of inter-faith organizations, non-govermental organizations, poeple's organizations and government agencies who are working, advocating and mainstreaming the Culture of Peace in the Negros Island through various creative initiatives, projects and programs.

Inspired by The Mindanao Week of peace and the Peacetival of the Paghili-usa sa Pagheda-et Negros (PsPN) years back, Pax Christi Pilipinas, through its National Director Mr. Ceasar H. Villanueva and members of Pax Chriti Pilipinas-Negros, initiated the project in 2004 with the theme "Bacolod, Negros Unit for Peace." The workforce was mainly costituted by the youth of Negros Occidental. Since then, it has been held annually, from the last week of November to the first week of December, simultaneously with the Mindanao Week of Peace.

It has benn institutionalized in the province through Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 05-03 Series of 2004 sponsored by former SP member Reynaldo P. Depasucat and affirmed by then Governor Joseph G. Maranon. Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue of Bacolod also sponsored a Sanguniang Panlungsod Resolution and eventually incorporated it in the City Ordinance 423 of 2006, Article 8, Section 2: Promoting Peace and Equality through Arts, Culture and Sports.

In 2005, the official logo of The Negros Week of Peace, made by renowned Negrense artist Pegue Gallaga, was adopted. Gallaga changed the initial thought of using a dove as a symbol for peace for the "tikling" (cranes) who fly in from China and as such, "have no boundaries." He placed the bird in relation to the mountain (under which Negrense live, work and play), adding that "its not truly "Paghida-et"(peace)if it does not fly!"

The overaching goal of the Negros Week of Peace is captured through the theme "Building a Culture of Peace in Negros" Together with all sectors of the community, the Negrense youth is now challenged to lead the way in helping build local capabilities for peace in the province, the country, and beyond.
