It
has benn institutionalized in the province through
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 05-03
Series of 2004 sponsored by former SP member
Reynaldo P. Depasucat and affirmed by then Governor
Joseph G. Maranon. Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue
of Bacolod also sponsored a Sanguniang Panlungsod
Resolution and eventually incorporated it in
the City Ordinance 423 of 2006, Article 8, Section
2: Promoting Peace and Equality through Arts,
Culture and Sports.
In
2005, the official logo of The Negros Week of
Peace, made by renowned Negrense artist Pegue
Gallaga, was adopted. Gallaga changed the initial
thought of using a dove as a symbol for peace
for the "tikling" (cranes) who fly
in from China and as such, "have no boundaries."
He placed the bird in relation to the mountain
(under which Negrense live, work and play),
adding that "its not truly "Paghida-et"(peace)if
it does not fly!"
The
overaching goal of the Negros Week of Peace
is captured through the theme "Building
a Culture of Peace in Negros" Together
with all sectors of the community, the Negrense
youth is now challenged to lead the way in helping
build local capabilities for peace in the province,
the country, and beyond.
